noun
the point or place where something begins, arises, or is derived.
This spring we go back to the beginning.
Creation.
Marriage.
The Fall.
Atonement.
The first murder.
The flood.
The origin of languages.
The origin of Israel.
How does the origin of all these things affect us today? One thing is certain, it's hard to know where you're going if you don't know from where you've come...if you don't know what has come before.
Genesis lays the foundation. Genesis unapologetically begins with "In the beginning...God". It reminds us that Scripture is written for a people of faith. As we navigate through these ancient stories, may they come alive again in our hearts and in our lives as they inform current realities.
And as we go back to the beginning, let us be reminded and awed by the truth of Colossians 1:15-17: "He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together."
Amen!
